* Happy Fortune Tea is just a straight up boost to everyone. Although it mostly benefits melee fighters as Mages can't crit. However this item increases your luck stat boosting damage on all skills, and increases your crit rate by 5% per stage, so with 2 stages that's a crit rate of +10%.

* There is one other item I want to mention that is the [[Consumables#Brew|THE KRAKEN]]. So the good thing about this item is that it guarantees critical hits, however it makes the one inflicted with it attack randomly. This means that only melee fighters can benefit from it, and you will not have access to your skills therefore any party member the relies heavily on skills to provide damage will be at a disadvantage. And the last thing it also increases your attack stat, which in turn makes slender tankier, if used pre-battle. So this is one is very situational.

Skills

  • Rift in Time and Space: Technique. Single target
    • This skill is a little different. It doesn't do any damage, however it instead removes the target from the battle and with no way to heal or bring the party member back. Don't worry, everyone will return once the battle is over.

Strategy

First off all I want to clear up a misconception about Slender, he is NOT weak to necrotic damage, if you have experienced Larelle doing increased damage to him it is simply because you completed her Love Quest.

The problem with Slender is his skill, because one party member dies every turn which means you have to win in 4 turns or less

A few notes first. This boss is different from the rest, at the start of the battle he will scale his HP, Defense, and Resist to the Attack and Magic stat of your party. As a result he is just as hard to beat at say level 12 as he would be at level 60.

However knowing that, there are a few ways you can boost your damage output without making Slender stronger:

  • The first one is to raise your critical chance, this will increase your potential damage output without raising Slenders stats
  • The second way is to increase your luck stat. Luck increases the damage of both your standard attack and skills, and Slender will not scale to this stat.
  • The third way is to buff while in the battle, Slender only scales at the start of the battle so any buffs applied after will not affect him only you.
  • The fourth and final way is to apply Resist and Defense debuffs, these are self-explanatory.

Alright let's talk items and other ways to improve yourself.

So the best items to give yourself an edge without also making Slender tankier is coatings.

  • The first Coating to note is Contact Poison, this gives you a chance to Poison Slender which is a 10% DoT, so if you manage to inflict this on your first turn it will result in 30% damage.
  • The second Coating to note is Oil of Instability, it causes a resist debuff but the good thing about this coating is that it doesn't inflict a normal resist debuff but a status effect called Ascarit so it circumvent Slenders resistance to resist debuffs.
  • The third to note is Caustic Oil, this causes a Defense debuff for your melee fighters, however there is a caveat with this, it gives your melee attacks the Acid element which Slender is resistant to, so if you wanna use this coating you will have to soft reset the fight until the debuff inflicts on the first turn otherwise it will result in reduced damage.
  • The fourth and last coating is the repair kit. For any character that gets the "blunt" coating will get a +15% crit rate.
  • Happy Fortune Tea is just a straight up boost to everyone. Although it mostly benefits melee fighters as Mages can't crit. However this item increases your luck stat boosting damage on all skills, and increases your crit rate by 5% per stage, so with 2 stages that's a crit rate of +10%.
  • There is one other item I want to mention that is the THE KRAKEN.

Next is the other ways:

  • First up is blessings. These increase your crit chance and defensive stats, but since Slender only scales to your offensive stats this is an overall boost to damage without buffing Slender too.
  • Another way is Caster's Spark. Yes, you your mage will lose an attacking action, but if you use an all mage party (not counting hero) the overall damage output will be higher even with a lost action.

A few notes on party members.

The thing to know about this fight is that you are meant to deal as much damage as you possibly can in 4 turns, this does not leave much room for setup. Therefore characters with low damage output and characters who require setup are very much not recommended. These are the characters who, in my own personal opinion, should be avoided:

  • Wiki-tan: Do NOT use Wiki-tan here. While she is normally an "I win" character, here she will most likely be more of a hindrance than an advantage. Because of the way Slender scales and how you can change her stats at will, it is very easy to render your other 3 party members too weak to win this fight.
  • Cerulean: He just can't stack up against the rest of your party members.
  • Chimei: Chimei is the boss killer and her single target damage output is unrivaled. However she relies too heavily on Momentum and that requires setup.
  • Gargan: He can do quite a bit of damage, however that requires both momentum and setup.
  • Meline: Her damage output is overshadowed by the other mages.
  • Doll: Low damage output
  • Therese: Low damage output

Party Members that will give you a distinct advantage in the fight.

  • Kyrie: Not only can she do quite a bit of damage despite Slenders resistance to her elements. But the big advantage to her is her Acid, it reduces Slenders defense and therefore your Melee fighters will do more damage.
  • Yeon/Healbot: So the advantage by using one of these two is Caster's Spark, as explained above. Yeon is SLIGHTLY better than Healbot, because her combined offensive stats (Attack+Magic) is slightly lower than Healbots combined offensive stats, and therefore Slender will have less HP than with Healbot.
  • Raina: Raina is unique in that she can use her defense stat and not her attack stat to damage with, when using Shield Bash(Knockdown too, but they have the same amount of damage and Slender is immune to knockdown). So with a Blessing, 2 Potions of Barkskin and the highest defense heavy armor you have she will be doing alot of damage. And since her attack stat doesn't increase damage from Shield Bash, you can unequip her weapon and as a result make Slender weaker. The downside is that Shield Bash requires momentum, but given how she will be wearing Heavy Armor that means she will most likely be the first targeted and therefore you only really need to start with 8 momentum.
  • Bronwyn: She is in the same boat as Raina, her Eye Gouging Arrow uses agility to attack with, plus it uses her hit rate as a multiplier (Hit Rate^2). So giving her agility boosting equipment and buffs and finish it off with the Talisman of Truth and she can be a beast.
  • Diadira: This one is a little debateable, when you use Heartbeat Panic every other party member will get an attack and magic buff plus they will have a 50% chance of an extra action. The downside is that Didi can't attack and you will lose an attacking action. But if the extra move triggers once it will make up for the lost action, and you will be buffed too. So while she may be situational, it can be a real advantage if you have good RNG.

Damage dealers.

  • Larelle: For Larelle to be a proper damage dealer in this fight you will have to have completed her Love Quest, but if you have done that she will be able to rival Kyrie in pure DPS against Slender. However if you haven't completed her LQ she will be at the same level as Meline
  • Elaiya: So her damage comes from Triple Barrage. Being able to use a 3 hit attack in 1 turn is really good for action economy and well worth the high momentum cost. Even without that skill she boasts one of the highest base attack stat.
  • Yamamaya: There is a downside to Yamamaya and that is, it takes one turn to activate her rage which could mean that if you are unlucky and Slenders gobbles her up first she won't be dealing any damage. However her Hungry Wolf Rage gives her a 50% attack buff and a +20% critical chance combine that with a blessing and she will have a 70% chance of landing a critical hit. That buff is well worth her losing an attacking action, provided she isn't the first to be gobbled up.

So that was alot of notes, and now it's time for the actual strategy. Disclaimer: This is not the only way to finish this fight, this is just what I consider to be the most optimal way to do it.

Party Members

  • Hero: I use Warlord for no other reason than I prefer Warlord to Phantom Knight.
    • Equipment
      • Weapon: Enhanced Sword or better.
      • Off-hand: N/A.
      • Headgear: Lucky Hat.
        • It gives a 2% Critical Chance.
      • Bodygear: Nothing/Any light armour/Clothing.
        • We want to avoid Hero being the first to be killed, so don't equip him with heavy armour.
      • Accessory: Agart Warhorn.
        • 50% chance of second and action and a 15% chance of inflicting rocked, yes please.
    • Item
      • Contact Poison.
        • If you can manage to inflict poison that's another 10% damage each turn.
      • Happy Fortune Tea.
        • Increased luck and crit rate.
  • Elaiya: She is the damage dealer.
    • Equipment
      • Weapon: The highest tier you have access to.
      • Weapon: The highest tier you have access to.
      • Headgear: Raider's Helm.
        • +1 momentum regen.
      • Bodygear: Raider's Scale.
        • +1 momentum regen.
      • Accessory: Pirate Queen Earrings.
        • +5 luck, +2.5% Critical Chance and 25% chance of an extra actions, that can't be passed up.
    • Item
      • Repair Kit.
        • +15% to crit rate.
      • Happy Fortune Tea.
        • Increased luck and crit rate.
  • Bronwyn: With her new revamp Bronwyn is the second best character to use here, second only to Raina.
    • Equipment
      • Weapon: None.
      • Off-hand: Nothing/Anything that doesn't add magic.
        • There is nothing here to give you any advantages.
      • Headgear: Feather Helm.
        • To increase her agility.
      • Bodygear: Feather Mail.
        • To increase her agility.
      • Accessory: Talisman of Truth.
        • To increase her Hit Rate.
    • Item
      • Causic Oil.
        • Eye Gouging Arrow already has a hardset "Projectile" element so the acid element won't override it and lower her damage, however the defense debuff can still trigger and therefore increase damage for the rest of the team.
      • 2 Potions of Celerity
        • Agility buff and increases Hit Rate
      • Happy Fortune Tea.
        • Increased luck. Eye Gouging Arrow can't crit so this one can be neglected without a big difference.
  • Raina: We need to try and direct Slenders first attack on someone, since heavy armour is the best way to do that we might aswell use the character that can turn defense into attack.
    • Equipment
      • Weapon: None.
        • She doesn't need the attack stat to deal damage, therefore don't give her a higher attack stat to increase Slenders HP
      • Off-hand: Imbued Shield.
        • For the defense stat.
      • Headgear: Crested Armet.
        • For the defense stat and increased threat.
      • Bodygear: Noble Mail.
        • Again for the defense stat and increased threat.
      • Accessory: Kellos Warhorn/Iron Gauntlet/Iron Armband/Earth Spirit Charm/Bracers of Defense/Lucky Charm.
        • Kellos Warhorn has a 50% chance of double action, which is effectively +50% damage
        • Lucky Charm for the +30 luck
        • The others for their +5 defense (This one would be the best options)
        • Technically the Blue Dragon Ring would be the best. But I am not a fan of suggesting satisfaction equipment.
    • Item
      • Repair Kit.
        • +15% to crit rate.
      • 2 Potions of Barkskin.
        • Another defense buff for her.
      • Happy Fortune Tea.
        • Increased luck and crit rate.

Preparations for the fight is simple, apply all the aforementioned items on your characters and get a blessing for the +50% Critical Chance and a defense buff for Raina.

The fight itself is pretty straightforward.

If you have Eternal Crescent for Hero use it whenever you have enough Momentum otherwise just spam attack with him.

With Elaiya use Triple Barrage whenever you have the momentum and the normal attack any other time you don't have the momentum.

Kyrie should be using Burning Blizzard, if you are doing this before she is level 26 use Acid Arrow instead.

And lastly Raina should be using Shield Bash.

With this setup I've consistently been able to win in 2 turns.
